Reality TV
In the future everyone will be world-famous for fifteen minutes”
Andy Warhol
I admit to indulging in Reality TV but I think it has gotten out of control. We have the Next Chef, Model, Idol, Apprentice, and Super Hero. You can watch someone having plastic surgery on Extreme Makeover or watch someone eating cockroaches. Lets not forget about the great role models for our kids that these shows provide. Take Jersey Shore for instance. Here we have 20 something year olds portraying Italian- American stereotypes displaying immoral behavior. The plot basically goes like this: Ronnie and Sammi are in love, oh no they broke up, Ronnie needs a cigarette, Snookie gets drunk and is looking for love in all the wrong places, the Situation is showing his abs again, JWOWW cheats on boyfriend, “happy-ending” Ronnie and Sammi are back in love. This show is all about lust, gluttony, envy, wrath, greed, and laziness. Sound familiar? These are not qualities I want my daughter to aspire to.
They're doing a new show: Celebrity Corpse, where you dig up someone after five years and try to guess who they were.

This is a joke but I truly believe that if it were real, it would get high ratings.
What keeps us glued to the TV while watching Housewives live lavishly while backstabbing a friend. and do we really want to keep up with the Kardashians? Some of these shows are like watching an accident. We don’t want to look, but we just can’t help ourselves. We have become a voyeuristic society; it is now legal to be a Peeping Tom. It’s broadcasted for the world to see. Those of us who are not watching are seeking automatic fame, willing to unload our emotional baggage, display bad public behavior, and virtually sell our soles for fifteen minutes of fame and fortune.
If I had a reality show, I would call it Coma because that’s what I would put people in if they had to watch me twenty-four seven. I wake up looking lovely as always with those attractive bags under my eyes. I stumble to the kitchen to get some coffee and start my day. The big mystery at the moment is, “what shall I put in my daughters lunch box for school?” I analyze the fruit and vegetable drawers to get ideas. The fuzzy shriveled thing in the corner perplexes me. Should I throw it out? It’s too early to make decisions, so I put it back and continue on my quest for the perfect lunchbox meal. I could go on but then I would just be another moron who doesn’t blink twice at baring my sole and cleaning the house naked.
What would your reality TV show be called?
What would your reality TV show be called?
Mine would be entitled, "I Can't Believe She's That Boring!"
ReplyDeleteThanks for the very funny post! I always love my visits to your blog!
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny and yet so true! When did we all become such peeping Toms??? I wouldn't even want to venture into what my reality show would be titled, as much of a guilty pleasure as some shows are, I have no personal desire to be part of one (I'll just watch)
ReplyDeleteLMBO yet so truee. I will admit I watch "Jersey Shore" But Im an adult so they aren't my role models lol I do agree though I dont want my kids to aspire to that.

so much of real truth you have stated. I don't watch reality shows as it can be very addictive. I don't know American Idol is a reality show but this is the only one I look forward to.
ReplyDeleteThats for your comments on my blog, appreciate it.
Fabulous post!!! thanks for visiting.. I'm now following your blog too!!!HHL
ReplyDeleteMine would be ... "Biggest-Workout-Procrastinator" ... where the cameras would follow me around at home as I stall & find excuses until about 2 pm & then pan over to the gym where I hang out at the ice machine, leaf through some magazines, chat with a friend ... and then at the end of the hour, I sputter through a few sit-ups, wipe my brow & I'm outta there. Maybe they would make it into a movie!
ReplyDeleteBtw, this post is hilarious!!! Can I use a portion of it with you as a guest contributor for a "Fit To Be Tied Friday?"
I think my show would be called: Internet Addict. I'm obsessed with the internet! Sometimes I have nightmares that I'll wake up and it will have just vanished! I'm so crazy LOL! I do have to admit I'm a total reality TV junky too, and I'm ashamed! Thanks for stopping by my blog today, I noticed you said you followed and I didn't see it in my google friend connect box yet, so maybe it didn't go through? Either way, I'm following your awesome blog and when you get a min, maybe you can swing by and try to follow mine again? Thanks so much! http://www.mammatown.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what it would be called, but my kids have been told by their friends that our family should have our own reality show! I think its just because we're big and loud---at least I hope that's why! Great post. I think the out of control reality shows are just a sympton of the real out of control problems our culture as a whole has. I must admit that I love to watch Survivior! I'm a new follower from MBC--feel free to follow back.
ReplyDeleteI am really addicted to all of the Real Housewifes Of.....
ReplyDeleteBut when I stop and look at the garbage I watch, I wonder what happened to all the good sitcoms?
Well written post!

love Love LOVE your blog! You brightened my day! If I had to have a reality show, it would probably be called Population Me, because I am so dang random!
ReplyDeleteThanks for following ohmadremia.com
You are right about it being a bit much with reality TV. You are also right when you say it is like an accident that you do not want to see, yet you look. I have to say that there are a cuple of shows I have gotten hooked on. I loved watching Celebrity Apprentice when Brett Michaels was on. He was just so cute and nice! Do I keep watching these shows each season? No. I think sometimes we watch these things because we can't believe that some people have these lives and also just for a good laugh! I hope you have a great night! :)

ReplyDeleteFollowing back. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I read this post and I couldn't agree with you more. The fascination that people have with watching train wrecks is amazing, especially given what is happening in the world today. I look forward to reading more from you.

Well said! I can honestly say I've never watched an episode of any reality cooking, model, celebrity show. They actually make me MAD for some reason. It's the "dumbing down" of society I suppose!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow, I'm following back. Nice blog! :)
